In 1941, airborne operations were still in their infancy. Germany was at the forefront of airmobile tactics and decided to use paratroopers in a risky invasion of the strategic island of Crete. Over 10,000 German paratroopers were committed to the attack. They faced a mixed Commonwealth and Greek force of over 40,000 men. Despite lopsided numbers, the Germans were able to secure airfields on Crete and bring in reinforcement-albeit at the cost of horrific casualties. Germany would never again undertake a large scale airborne strike. Kit features Paratroopers during the Battle of Crete.
